Kandy is the cultural soul of Sri Lanka, the last royal capital of the Kandyan Kingdom and home to traditions of art, dance, music and devotion that have flourished in this highland city for centuries and a full day here barely scratches the surface of what this place has to offer. The tour begins at the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, the most revered Buddhist site in Sri Lanka, where the morning puja ceremony fills the air with drumming and incense and the golden interior shimmers with the accumulated devotion of two thousand years. The afternoon takes in the magnificent Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, 147 acres of curated botanical splendour housing orchid houses, spice collections, giant bamboo groves, and one of the finest collections of tropical trees in Asia, before the tour concludes with an electrifying Kandyan cultural performance featuring fire-dancing, acrobatics and traditional drumming.
