Udawalawe National Park is a vast open landscape of grassland, scrub and reservoir that is home to one of the largest and most stable elephant populations on the island, with herds frequently numbering in the dozens moving across the open plains in full view. The park’s terrain is ideal for wildlife observation: low vegetation means sightings are reliable and photography is excellent, with elephants visible at virtually every turn in the morning and evening.
