Yala National Park is Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife sanctuary and one of the world’s best places to spot leopards in the wild. The park has one of the highest densities of leopards of any protected area on earth and sightings, while never guaranteed, are remarkably frequent. The park’s varied habitats – rocky outcrops, lagoons, dense jungle and open grass plains fringed by the Indian Ocean – support a range of wildlife, including elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, water buffalo and over 200 species of birds.
